Two Duneland Group employees earn National Environmental Policy Act Categorical Exclusion Certifications from the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT)

Chesterton, Indiana (May 10, 2013) – Two employees of Chesterton, Ind.-based Duneland Group, Inc. (Duneland), provider of engineering and surveying services throughout Northwest Indiana and the Midwest, have completed the National Environmental Policy Act Categorical Exclusion Process. The training was completed by the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT).

“We are very pleased to have finally completed the extensive coursework needed and passed testing that will allow the company to continue completing environmental work on state and federal highway projects,” said Charles Ray, president of Duneland Group. “Duneland has been doing work that requires this type of certification for more than a decade now,” Ray explained.

Recently, the company completed the Porter Brickyard Trail project in Porter County, Indiana, for the Town of Porter Redevelopment Commission and Phase I of the Iron Horse Heritage Trail in Portage, Indiana, for the City of Portage Parks and Recreation.

The Trail begins in downtown Porter and meanders through the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore and ends near the Calumet Trail. This scenic trail also passes alongside Yost Elementary School, Bailly Homestead, Indiana Dunes Environmental Learning Center, Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore Park Headquarters and the Little Calumet River Hiking Trail. The trail will have bridges over U.S. Highway 20 and U.S. Highway 12 to enhance user safety. The location is based upon input from the residents of the Town of Porter.

The Iron Horse Heritage Trail is largely a rustic nature trail through woodlands and wetlands that runs 5.1 miles with 1.5 miles paved, between Imagination Glen Park (Samuelson Road) and Hamstrom Road in Portage, Indiana. The entire trail design and center line survey were completed by Duneland.
