The walk, entitled "Superheroes Among Us," took place on May 20 at the Lake County Fairgrounds and St. Anthony Village, and raised more than $32,000 for the more than 36,000 people in Northwest Indiana affected by this disease and the many forms of dementia. 

“In northern Indiana alone, more than 36,500 people have been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease,” said Melissa Garcia, Marketing Director for Duneland and the ALZNI Lake County Walk Coordinator.

IMG_0653.jpgBoys & Girls Club hired Duneland Group as the Civil Engineer to provide surveying and civil engineering services to build a new Boys & Girls Club in Chesterton, Indiana, at 521 W 1100 N, where a church once stood.

Duneland’s work also included drainage, utilities and services to build a practice soccer field.

Construction of the new facility began in the summer of 2016.


The new Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County Duneland will be a “state-of-the-art facility” when complete and include a full-size gymnasium, two-story rock-climbing wall, teen tech lounge, exergaming or tech-based fitness area and a STEM lounge - a room with state-of-the-art computers for hands-on learning in science, technology, engineering and math.

Timberland Subdivision is a 116-acre, 185-lot residential subdivision located in Porter County, Indiana, just outside of Chesterton, Indiana. 

For Phase 2 of this project, Duneland Group provided surveying, site design, construction layout and roads for the 40-lot subdivision being built by Nardo Builders.

For Phase 1, Duneland Group provided topographic surveying, preliminary and final platting and site planning assistance for the Timberland Farms Development, LLC. The project also included construction layout for infrastructure of the green space.

Aukiki_Park_Top.jpgPorter County Parks hired Duneland Group to provide surveying and site design for Aukiki Park in Porter County, Indiana.

Work also includes the park's parking lots. 

The park will provide the first county-owned sports fields on 63.5 acres west of Indiana 49 between County Roads 650 South and 700 South.

Plans include softball, baseball and soccer fields, and possibly using artificial turf for one soccer field and putting a dome over it so it could be used year-round, as well as walking trails, a community building, a play area, and a festival plaza.

The purpose is to establish green space in the middle of the county that will be there for generations.

Stone_Meadows_Web.jpgDuneland recently began the design of Stone Meadows residential subdivision in Chesterton, Indiana.

Duneland designed the lot layout, storm detention pond, outlet of the roadside ditch and waterline for this 12-acre subdivision with 25 lots (roughly 0.25 acres per lot).

Duneland was also responsible for bringing municipal water and sewer to the property for the development of the project with a 2-acre detention pond that has bioswales and best-cleaning water particles to clean the water before it is distributed into downstream water.

Duneland secured the permit for municipal water, designed and secured the permit for the subdivision’s sewer system and designed the property’s landscaping per the town’s requirements.

Building will begin this spring.

BNSF_2_sm.jpgDuneland is completing bridge reconstruction work over the Chicago Sanitary and Shipping Canal at BNSF’s Mandota Subdivision near Cicero, Illinois. The project includes replacement of two double-track bridges for which Duneland is providing construction layout.

These projects are part of BNSF’s capital commitment plan for 2014 of approximately $5 billion.  Many of the line and terminal-related projects that are part of this large capital plan are being made to support velocity improvements and add capacity to handle volume increases related to the energy business and other commodities that move on these segments

Two Duneland Group employees earn National Environmental Policy Act Categorical Exclusion Certifications from the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT)

Chesterton, Indiana (May 10, 2013) – Two employees of Chesterton, Ind.-based Duneland Group, Inc. (Duneland), provider of engineering and surveying services throughout Northwest Indiana and the Midwest, have completed the National Environmental Policy Act Categorical Exclusion Process. The training was completed by the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT).

“We are very pleased to have finally completed the extensive coursework needed and passed testing that will allow the company to continue completing environmental work on state and federal highway projects,” said Charles Ray, president of Duneland Group. “Duneland has been doing work that requires this type of certification for more than a decade now,” Ray explained.

Recently, the company completed the Porter Brickyard Trail project in Porter County, Indiana, for the Town of Porter Redevelopment Commission and Phase I of the Iron Horse Heritage Trail in Portage, Indiana, for the City of Portage Parks and Recreation.

Porter_Trail_2_9_12_009_sm_print.jpgThe Porter Brickyard Trail project involved engineering a 2.7-mile bike/pedestrian trail that runs through the town of Porter and connects to the Prairie Duneland Trail in the town of Chesterton to the Calumet Trail in the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. The Trail begins in downtown Porter and meanders through the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore and ends near the Calumet Trail. This scenic trail also passes alongside Yost Elementary School, Bailly Homestead, Indiana Dunes Environmental Learning Center, Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore Park Headquarters and the Little Calumet River Hiking Trail. The trail will have bridges over U.S. Highway 20 and U.S. Highway 12 to enhance user safety. The location is based upon input from the residents of the Town of Porter.

Merrillville-based NIPSCO’s R.M. Schahfer Generating Station's more than $500 million upgrade in Wheatfield was among three local projects named as as the Midwest Top Project Starts of 2012. The project also received recognition in the April issue of Engineering News-Record Midwest magazine.

Duneland Group completed pile staking work on the esteemed project, which began in January 2012 and is scheduled for completion in 2015.

“This type of industry recognition is really a testament to the dedicated men and women working on this project day-in and day-out,” NIPSCO spokesman Nick Meyer was quoted in the Times article as saying. “And, it all boils down to solid planning and preparation combined with focused project management and execution. We have a great team.”

(Duneland), a leading Midwest engineering and surveying services provider, recently earned certification by Presby Environmental Inc. (PEI), to design and install the Presby Enviro-Septic Wastewater Treatment System. Nick Ray, Scott Civanich and Paula Armour all passed with 90% and higher scores and are now able to design and install this cutting-edge, environmentally responsible technology.  

PEI is an environmental organization that engineers new wastewater treatment technology. Founded in 1995 by inventor David Presby, the organization is also involved in developing cutting edge water pollution control technologies to help protect and preserve natural resources.

“Indiana requires all designers and installers to be certified,” said Charles Ray, owner and CEO, Duneland. “But it goes deeper than that for Duneland because we believe in the overall environmental vision of PEI and its products and services,” Ray added. “This new technology is an alternative to conventional leach field systems, is lower in cost and is also environmentally responsible. You can’t ask for much more.”

“We are excited to be an approved vendor,” said Charles L. Ray, Professional Engineer (PE) and leader of Duneland. “This not only allows Duneland to work directly for the MWRD but also to work as a subcontractor for other prime consultants and contractors providing services to the MWRD,” he added. As a vendor with the MWRD, Duneland is now considered a “Participating Business” in accordance with the MWRD Affirmative Action Ordinance.
