Duneland Sponsors ALZNI Fundraising Walk

ALZNI_Walk.jpgDuneland Group, Chesterton-based engineering and surveying services provider, recently sponsored local not-for-profit organization Alzheimer and Dementia Services of Northern Indiana's  (ALZNI) annual walk fundraiser. The walk, entitled "Superheroes Among Us," took place on May 20 at the Lake County Fairgrounds and St. Anthony Village, and raised more than $32,000 for the more than 36,000 people in Northwest Indiana affected by this disease and the many forms of dementia.

“In northern Indiana alone, more than 36,500 people have been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease,” said Melissa Garcia, Marketing Director for Duneland and the ALZNI Lake County Walk Coordinator.

Hospice_Calumet_-_Copy.jpg“More than seven out of ten people with Alzheimer’s disease live at home, and almost 75% of the home care is provided by family and friends, so disease education and learning how to use simple care giving approaches can enrich the quality of life for the caregiver as well as the person with dementia,” she explained. “Through their many education programs and services ALZNI provides training, support, and community referral services for people with the disease and their caregivers right here in northern Indiana. All of the proceeds from our fundraisers, like the annual walk, go directly back to our community.”

The walk featured a DJ, breakfast and refreshments, and vendors who provided information, services and some fun raffles and prizes. The walk was open to the entire family, including children and the family dog.

Families walked at their own pace on the less than two-mile course. More information on the walk can be directed to Garcia at (219) 628-5175.
